Yes, again

Today's mail brought notification that I am again -- this time one of three -- finalist in a manuscript competition. This is the 19th time Demimonde has been a finalist. It was called "emotionally engaging" and "marvelous." Will it ever just be good enough?

A fine fall day in SF. Walked the dog in that pooch paradise, Funston. After I finish my Moroccan mint green tea, I'm going out again. The garden calls.

Addendum: Monday is yet another anniversary of John Lennon's birthday. Well, I have this essay I wrote recounting my adventure meeting Lennon and working in his entourage for one weekend--his birthday weekend--in 1971. Does anybody out there know of a publication (online is fine) that would be interested in this?

Just for starters, don't anyone suggest Rolling Stone.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Demimonde. If it helps, tell them I'll buy it.

I've just started sending mine out (second contest last week). Ack. Long road ahead.

Thanks, Leslie. That's sweet.

And good luck on yours.

Your time will definitely come. And then when the book is safely out you can give interviews about how the process went for you, and scare poets away from contests right and left, and then there will be less competition for those of us following behind you. ;)

I'm just getting ready to send out my collection this fall.

How long will I suffer?

Also keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Anne and Eduardo, thanks for the good thoughts. And best to both of you. Don't get scared by my experience. I'm obviously doing something wrong or have just bad luck -- or both. Betcha neither of you have any problem.

Have you ever considered another avenue for publishing your book? Not self publishing, but perhaps sending it to a small press that does not run contests? There are some beautiful books being published out there by small presses.

I do consider it -- and my book is out now to some. Last fall, it was being considered by Tupelo, only the ultimate decision went against it. Maybe I haven't tried small enough. Thanks for the suggestion.
